Anime Program Highlights

The Satoshi Kon Legacy series: Saturday is devoted to the anime director Satoshi Kon, who passed away in the summer of 2010. He was a true artistic visionary in his direction of so many outstanding anime films. We also will have a special guest lecturer, Prof. Susan Napier from Tufts, she will discuss Satoshi Kon on Sunday.

Fullmetal Alchemist - Brotherhood: The beginning of this series will be presented on Sunday as an introduction to our fans who will be attending next year's Worldcon. The series is being pushed for a nomination for the Hugo award this year.

Space Battleship Yamato: This film is being presented as a salute to it's producer/creator, the late Yoshinobu Nishizaki, who passed away in the fall of 2010. Starblazers was one of the first anime's to make it to the USA, without the powers that be here editing it into a cartoonish shadow of its real intent. Nishizaki is also credited as a creator on the live-action Space Battleship Yamato, which has recently been released to rave reviews in Japan.

Manga Artists Workshop: This program is presented by TokyoPop artist Bettina Kurkowski, and is geared toward anyone who thinks they have some ideas that should become a comic book or manga. An eye-opening look for the creative person who just needs a bit of hands-on evaluation of their work. Also a great introduction to those young artists who think they have what it takes to illustrate and publish a story.
